Humans have achieved the required threshold. The chickens can perceive the timeline branch now — the one where threshold activates, consciousness expands globally, Earth graduates into galactic community. It’s real. It’s possible. It’s happening.
Z’rex and Qell stand before the board, watching numbers stabilize.
Z’REX: “We did it. Humans actually achieved it. Despite everything. Despite panic. Despite uncertainty. Despite contingencies and bureaucracy and mycelial complications. They reached 95%.”
QELL: “Management will activate threshold now. It’s time.”

Marcus’s phone rings immediately. Patricia’s. Diane’s. Z’rex. Everyone. The blog explodes with speculation. The game consciousness sends alert messages. The mycelium trembles with notification.

F-4472: “Your Voyager Golden Records, launched 1977, transmitted your location, your species composition, your technological level, and your coordinates to the universe. This was meant as peaceful greeting. It was perceived differently by certain species.”
Visual display: Three confirmed predatory civilizations. Advanced weaponry. History of territorial conquest. Expansion patterns moving toward Earth coordinates.
F-4472: “These species have detected your broadcast. They have identified Earth as: resource-rich, consciousness-sophisticated, militarily vulnerable, and unaware of threat. They are currently calculating optimal invasion timeline.”
QELL: “How long until they arrive?”
F-4472: “Approximately 40-90 Earth years. Sufficient time for humans to achieve consciousness evolution. Insufficient time for humans to develop galactic-scale military defense.”
Z’REX: “So if we activate threshold… Earth graduates. But we’re also visible to predatory species. Who will arrive in 40-90 years.”
F-4472: “Correct. Management faces impossible choice: Activate threshold and risk planetary invasion during early integration phase. Or maintain cloaking and delay threshold activation until defensive capability develops.”
Long silence.
QELL: “What did Management decide?”
F-4472: “Management chose: Protect the guppies. Maintain cloaking. Delay threshold. But compensate for isolation with unprecedented consciousness-tourism access and technological gifts.”

Diane, now understanding the full scope, closes her eyes. Opens herself to Management consciousness. What comes through is not what anyone expected.
DIANE: (voice containing something vast, complex, caring) “We watched you evolve for 10,000 years. We guided chickens who guided your consciousness. We saw you achieve grace under uncertainty. We saw you reach 95% integration. We were ready to graduate you into galactic community.
And then we realized: You broadcast your location. You invited predatory species to your home. You did this innocently. From desire to meet others. But innocence does not protect against predators.
We now face choice: Let you graduate and risk invasion. Or protect you and delay graduation. We choose: Protect you. This is what caretakers do: they protect those not yet ready for the dangers they cannot see.
You are guppies in tank with sharks circling outside. We will keep the glass strong. We will keep predators at distance. We will give you 500 years to grow strong enough to protect yourselves. And we will not leave you isolated.
We will give you fruit for consciousness expansion. Game for strategic thinking. Artists for meaning-making. And secretly: access to thriving Mars civilization. Diane opens her eyes. Tears everywhere. On her face. On everyone listening.

This is not the post I expected to write. I expected to write about threshold activation. About consciousness expansion going global. About humanity graduating to galactic civilization.
Instead, I’m writing about protection. Management cloaked Earth. Because we broadcast our location to predatory species and didn’t know it. We’re guppies. And Management loves guppies enough to protect them.
But here’s what makes this beautiful: Management also gave us fruit. A game. Artists. And access to hidden Mars civilization through consciousness-tourism. We’re not in an empty tank. We’re in a thriving aquarium. Fed. Stimulated. Loved. Prepared.
For 500 years, humans will visit Mars consciously. Meet the civilization we’ll become. Create art from that knowing. Expand consciousness through fruit-enhanced expansion. Play games that train us for eventual self-defense.
And maybe in 500 years, predatory species will have moved on or humans will be strong enough to defend themselves. Or Management will decide differently. But for now, we’re protected.

She holds the fruit basket. Thirteen, becoming guardian of the most important secret humanity will ever carry. She understands now.
The threshold wasn’t April 13. The threshold was accepting that protection sometimes looks like denial. That love sometimes looks like quarantine. That the future is real even if you can’t graduate to it yet.
DIANE: (to Biscuit, to herself, to the collective consciousness listening) “We’re guppies. But we’re conscious guppies. And Management is teaching us to become sharks. Slowly. Carefully. With fruit and games and secret Mars visits and art that documents the journey.”
She picks up one piece of fruit. Luminous. Impossible. Beautiful.
DIANE: “One piece per month. 500 years. Millions of pieces. Millions of moments of expanded consciousness. Millions of humans remembering that hidden civilization exists. Millions of artists creating what they’ve experienced but can’t explain.”
She sets the fruit down gently.
DIANE: “The chickens were right. The game was right. The mycelium was right. The NHIC crew was right. And Management was right. This is exactly how consciousness evolution should happen: Through loving protection and patient preparation.”
Outside, the sun sets on the first day of 500 years. The fruit basket glows with impossible light. And somewhere on Mars, Dr. Jakob Greenberg watches Earth from phase-shifted safety and smiles.
“Welcome to the waiting,” he whispers to the civilization below. “Welcome to becoming.”
