The scene is an adult trying to control a child but it can manifest in other situations. The words:
“Don’t make me do this.”
Spoken by a person claiming to be put in a position that may require unflattering action perceived necessary to inflict a negative consequence.
“Don’t make me do this.”
Spoken by one who has every sense of the right or wrong of the impending action but is implying the other person is at fault.
“Don’t make me do this.”
Words spoken by one who is clearly in charge but would not hesitate to claim the role of victim.
“Don’t make me do this.”
A threat …. and a concession. One truly moved to act in a way they would rather not, or is in any way beneath his character, is himself defeated.
No one can force you to become less than you are unless you allow it. Even when that behavior has been modeled as appropriate – you have the final say whether to perpetuate or release a drama.
What do you say?
What you think matters – words are the after thought.
Great post! We are accountable. No one makes us mad or makes us do something. we choose how we react, it is our responsibility.
