Wendy’s Coffeehouse EVP Curiosities

Before getting waylaid by one of life’s unavoidable monkey wrenches (previous post), I had been experiencing some fascinating anomalies with my podcast audio. EVPs. Electronic Voice Phenomena.

Some EVPs are indistinguishable in the recordings but there are a few that stand out and seem to be an intentional highlight of elements of the conversation. The common denominator with these EVPs is the topic: Ingo Swann.

Consider: Utterances in EVP recordings are often one to two seconds long, with a smooth rather than abrupt initiation and termination suggesting a similarity between the recorded content and human speech (Butler, 2002). In regard to my personal feelings about this situation, I have had a sense of connection to Ingo from the time of the initial interview with Elly, his niece. (A few years ago now).

From that time, it seemed his art was purposeful and intended to reach a wider audience. That has played out. The pieces selected for inclusion in the most recent book, Stardust Highways: Ingo Swann’s Art of Entertaining, Amazon, are extraordinary.

  • Ingo’s work can be seen at the AVAM, American Visionary Art Museum.

Also on display at the High Line Hotel. Link.

This 2016 video promotes a La MaMa Galleria exhibit featuring several selections of Ingo’s Art. YouTube. Do be sure to read the comments.
  • Edited exhibit summary: The paintings and collages included in the exhibition – spanning the early 1960s to the late 1990s – illustrate the unique way that Swann viewed the world. After abandoning his dream of commercial success in the late 1950s, Swann continued to paint only what gave him joy: primarily, the energy that he saw radiating from the people around him. Swann saw this energy – chi, aura, force – as uniting all living things to one another. He believed that if people were to harness their extra-sensory perceptions, to see these forces as he could, the world would change for the better.

For this reason, this exhibition focuses on works from throughout his life that depict energy radiating from figures in rays, flames, mandalas, and halos. His subjects range from the mythological and ancient to hippies and hustlers. The latter of which, he may have seen outside of his home and studio on the Bowery in Manhattan. Link.

Amazon Review from movie score collaborator Steven Halpern: “A true classic, that almost became a major motion picture. This book ‘previews’ research that only became public decades later. Even the songs that begin each chapter are prescient. There’s a soundtracks album that is quite amazing.” – Link.

I have sent copies of select EVPs to be reviewed and will share when I have more information. After 25 years experiencing non-physical presence affirmed via my visual nightlight interaction, it seems there is a new twist — expansion — highlighting the presence of extra-dimensional others via the audio element.

Who, what, why, how? Will the pattern continue? Fascinating.

Wizard behind the curtain

Whatever objective reality might be, it’s not what you see. What you see, according to evolution by natural selection, is just an adaptive fiction. That includes spacetime and all objects within spacetime. They are a user interface, not objective reality.” – YouTube. “I’m claiming that experiences are the real coin of the realm. The experiences of everyday life — my real feeling of a headache, my real taste of chocolate — that really is the ultimate nature of reality.”Donald Hoffman, Source.
