I put my hand under the shelf to confirm what I already knew and again addressed the disembodied head, “You don’t belong here. You need to go with them.” The head disappeared.

I then stepped outside the door onto the porch to see that the crowd had indeed moved on and to wave along any stragglers who might remain. At that point, I remember yelling in frustration, “Doesn’t anyone know how to go to the light anymore?”

Just another day in paradise.
