Overlooking the Obvious

The mind is everything. What you think you become.Buddha Gotama

Sunshine – Lollipops and Rainbows – Seeking – seeking – seeking the elusive other.

We play our very own personal game of Hide and Go Seek . Life is out there somewhere. It is only complete when it is shared with someone else or by becoming someone (else) important. It is the great cosmic joke that we are broken if we are alone and are of no value “as is” ….and have hidden something very crucial to our existence in the scenery or within some elusive soul companion. But – if we slow down long enough to count the nose hairs on a turtle or say a combination of magic words all will be revealed and we will be complete…. POOF.

The problem is – that wonderful external scene is a projection we create or buy into. Whatever we think of it – our bias, our perception, our projections, wishes, hopes, dreams, and fears comes back at us. So, if we cannot see the beauty as created within, it cannot manifest as the great treasure without…

The only place to find that very – supremely important thing is the last place we turn to look: within. (Social dynamics inadvertently support personal devaluation.) All the while, that incredible treasure waits, a sacred gift, hidden, untapped until we are ready to – no longer look – rather to accept we are the treasure we seek. We are here to reveal our true self. We are here to share what we had to forget to be born. We are born complete. (Knowing.)

The most important thing anyone can do in learning to remember: Lose fear. Welcome home. You never left.

The child hides herself in full view by shutting her eyes and then becomes afraid of the dark. Panicked, she opens her eyes and realizes what she has done. The light is still on. And it isn’t about the light. It about is fear. Fear of the unknown. When fear is present – eyes are shut.

Each of us is a being in himself and a being in society, each of us needs to understand himself and understand others, take care of others and be taken care of himself.Haniel Long

When trying to improve and elevate our creating skills, it sometimes helps to remove oneself from the culture of lock- step consumption. Incredible photos of people who still believe – to paraphrase the author – “in the spirit of the environment.” The world of the Shaman is still alive and vibrant…with much to share and much to teach. It is not about escape. It is about connecting, valuing, sharing, and remembering. Beautiful Light.

  1. Thank You Wendy. Your writing is beautiful. This post in praticular, drew me. For I am fond of saying ‘the only way to overlook the obvious is not to look’. And here you have described exactly how we do that.

In hindsight (and you know if my hind is in sight, where my head is at)…when it comes to facing the unknown, it helps to recognize that it’s not unknowable.

Unknown and unknowable….2 different views. And one is a lot more frightening then the other.
