THE CONSCIOUSNESS COMPLIANCE DEPARTMENT (5/7)

Alien intervention. Not what you think. PS: Thinking is over-rated… — O

Refresh from Episode 1: NHIC Headquarters – Orientation Room

QELL: “Congratulations on your promotion to Senior Evolution Guidance. You’ve been assigned Sector 7-G: Earth.”

Z’REX: “Earth! I’ve heard about Earth. Mostly positive trajectory, right? Renaissance, Enlightenment, cat videos —”

QELL: “I’m going to stop you there.” Qell pulls up Earth’s file. It’s enormous. Literally reaches the ceiling.

QELL: “Earth has been on the ‘High Maintenance’ list for… let me check…” scrolls “…all of recorded time.”

Z’REX: “But the manual says —”

QELL: “The manual was written before we met humans. We’ve since developed a supplementary guide.”

Drops a second, larger manual on the desk: “SPECIAL PROTOCOLS FOR SPECIES WHO CREATE REALITY BUT REALLY, REALLY DON’T WANT TO KNOW ABOUT IT”

Z’REX: “How hard can it be? Consciousness evolution is elegant. Beautiful. Natural.”

QELL: “Right. Question: have you ever tried to help someone who asked for your help, received your help exactly as requested, then accused you of controlling them?”

Z’REX: “That’s… illogical.”

QELL: “Welcome to Earth.”

Humans: Exceptional Cat Videos.

Episode 5: “The Rememberers” (Or, Everyone Got Flashed Except the Ones Who Didn’t)

PREVIOUSLY: Chickens are temporally-oriented consciousness entities waiting for something three years from now. The octopi keep sending cryptic fruit baskets. Dolphins left for another dimension but maintain avatar bodies and publish a newsletter. And Z’rex is realizing Earth is significantly more complicated than the training manual suggested.

But none of that explains what Marcus just found in his bedroom closet at 3 AM. This is going to require a meeting.

COLD OPEN: THE CLOSET

MARCUS’S APARTMENT – 3:47 AM

Marcus wakes to sound of rustling. Not mice. Not wind. Something else.

His closet door is open. He KNOWS he closed it before bed. He always closes it. Childhood habit. Closet monsters and all that. But now it’s open.

And there’s someone standing in it. Not quite standing. Occupying space. Wearing a black suit that’s too crisp. Too perfect. Too black, like someone set the saturation slider past 100%.

The figure turns. No features. Not blurred. Not hidden. Just… absent. Like a cutout in reality shaped like a person.

FIGURE: “You’re not supposed to remember.”

MARCUS: (frozen) “Remember what?”

FIGURE: (produces small silver device, pen-like) “This conversation.”

The device activates. Sharp white light. Like a camera flash but lasting too long.

Marcus blinks.

The closet is empty. Closed. He’s standing in his bedroom in the dark, heart pounding. Did he dream that?

Checks phone. 3:47 AM. No — wait. 4:13 AM.

Twenty-six minutes missing.

Marcus sits on bed. Tries to remember. Can’t. Except — He can. There was someone. Black suit. Device. Light. He’s not supposed to remember.

But he does.

MARCUS: (aloud) “Oh no.”

Calls Z’rex. Voicemail.
Calls Patricia. Voicemail.
Calls Diane.
She picks up immediately.

Character card. Diane - not related to Dr. Chen.

DIANE: “You saw them too?”

ACT ONE: THE REMEMBERERS

DIANE’S HOUSE – 5 AM

Marcus, Patricia (who arrived looking annoyed at being woken), and Diane sitting in living room. Coffee. Lots of coffee.

DIANE: “How much do you remember?”

MARCUS: “Black suit. No face. Device that flashes. They said I’m not supposed to remember. Then I lost twenty minutes. Except I DO remember. Not everything. Just… impressions.”

PATRICIA: “This is ridiculous. You had a dream. Sleep paralysis. Very common —”

DIANE: “I saw them when I was seven. In the hospital. I was sick. High fever. Hallucinating. Except I wasn’t. They were standing at the foot of my bed. Three of them. Black suits. No faces. One held the device. Said ‘She’s too young. We’ll come back.’ Then —flash. I forgot for fifteen years. Until tonight.”

MARCUS: “What happened tonight?”

DIANE: “They came back. My closet. Same as yours. Said ‘You remember now. That’s a problem.’ Then — flash. But it didn’t work this time. I still remember.”

PATRICIA: “You’re both experiencing shared delusion —”

MARCUS: “Patricia, we see telepathic cows and conscious chickens waiting for temporal events. Why is ‘memory-wiping men in black suits’ where you draw the line?”

PATRICIA: (pause) “…fair point. But who are they?”

DIANE: “I don’t know. But they’re not NHI. They’re not human. They’re something else.”

MARCUS: “How do you know they’re not human?”

DIANE: “Because I can’t read them telepathically. When I scan, there’s nothing there. Not mental shields. Not consciousness. Just… void. Like scanning a wall.”

MARCUS: “Can you scan Z’rex?”

DIANE: “Yeah. They’re alien but they have presence. Thoughts. Emotions. These things don’t. They’re functionaries. Operating on programming. Not alive. Not dead. Just… executing.”

PATRICIA: “Executing what?”

DIANE: “Memory modification. Reality maintenance. They show up when someone sees something they’re not supposed to. Flash them. Memories gone. Problem solved.”

MARCUS: “Except we remember.”

DIANE: “Except we remember.”

PATRICIA: “So what changed? Why does the device work on most people but not you two?”

DIANE: “I don’t know. But I’m not the only one. There are others. I can feel them. People all over the world waking up tonight, remembering things they forgot. All at once.”

MARCUS: “Why all at once?”

DIANE: “Something broke. Or changed. The memory suppression is failing.”

PATRICIA: “How many people?”

DIANE: “I’m feeling… maybe a few thousand? Scattered. All confused. All remembering the same thing: black suits, no faces, flash of light, missing time.”

PATRICIA: “We need to call Z’rex.”

CALL TO Z’REX – 5:30 AM

Z’REX: (groggy) “This better be important.”

MARCUS: “Do you know about the Men in Black?”

Z’REX: (suddenly very awake) “What?”

MARCUS: “Black suits. No faces. Flash device that erases memories. Do you know what they are?”

Z’REX: “…I’ll be right there.”

ACT TWO: THE UNAUTHORIZED ENTITIES

DIANE’S LIVING ROOM – 6 AM

Z’rex materializes (with permission). Looks stressed. More stressed than usual.

Z’REX: “Who saw them?”

MARCUS: “Me. Diane. Maybe a few thousand others worldwide.”

Z’REX: “And you remember?”

DIANE: “We remember.”

Z’REX: “That’s… that’s very bad.”

PATRICIA: “Who are they?”

Z’REX: “We don’t know.”

PATRICIA: “What do you mean you don’t know? You’re the alien consciousness experts!”

Z’REX: “They’re not in our files. They’re not NHI. They’re not human. They’re not anything we’ve catalogued. They’re unauthorized.”

MARCUS: “Unauthorized by whom?”

Z’REX: “By anyone. They’re not supposed to exist. But they do. We call them Functionaries. Reality maintenance entities. They show up when timeline integrity is threatened. Flash people. Memories gone. Reality stable again.”

DIANE: “You KNOW about them?”

Z’REX: “We know OF them. We’ve never successfully observed them. They’re aware of our monitoring. They avoid us. Or we avoid them. It’s unclear.”

PATRICIA: “How long have they been operating?”

Z’REX: “As far as we can tell? Since humans developed complex memory. Maybe ten thousand years. Maybe longer.”

MARCUS: “Ten thousand years of memory manipulation?”

Z’REX: “Selective memory manipulation. They only target people who see things that would destabilize consensus reality. UFO witnesses. Time anomalies. Dimensional breaches. Anything that would make too many people question the nature of reality too quickly.”

DIANE: “So they’re… maintaining the illusion?”

Z’REX: “Not illusion. Stability. Reality is participatory. If too many people believe contradictory things simultaneously, reality fractures. The Functionaries prevent fractures.”

PATRICIA: “By erasing memories.”

Z’REX: “By curating memory. They decide what gets remembered. What gets forgotten. What becomes ‘shared reality.'”

MARCUS: “That’s horrifying.”

Z’REX: “That’s maintenance.”

DIANE: “But it’s failing. We remember. Others remember. What changed?”

Z’REX: “I don’t know. But if the memory suppression system is breaking down, we have bigger problems than unauthorized entities in closets.”

PATRICIA: “Like what?”

Z’REX: “Like everyone who was ever flashed suddenly remembering everything all at once. Millions of people. Millions of suppressed memories. Contradictory realities. Consensus breaks down. Reality destabilizes.”

MARCUS: “Would that be bad?”

Z’REX: “It would be chaos.”

DIANE: “Or awakening.”

Z’REX: “Same thing, usually.”

ACT THREE: THE HOLLYWOOD CONNECTION

MARCUS’S APARTMENT – 8 AM

Group has relocated. Marcus making coffee. Patricia researching. Diane monitoring telepathic network. Z’rex pacing nervously.

MARCUS: “Okay, weird thought. The movie. Men in Black. The 1997 movie. Black suits. Memory-flash device. Fighting aliens.”

PATRICIA: “It’s fiction.”

MARCUS: “Is it? How does fiction happen? Someone imagines it, right? What if someone imagined it because they REMEMBERED it?”

Z’REX: (stops pacing) “Keep going.”

MARCUS: “The movie’s based on a comic from 1990. The comic creator said he got the idea from urban legends about government agents in black suits. But what if those urban legends were real? What if people saw the Functionaries, got flashed, but some remembered anyway? Told stories? Stories became legends? Legends became comics? Comics became movies?”

DIANE: “So Hollywood accidentally documented real entities.”

MARCUS: “Not accidentally. Someone remembered. Someone who got flashed but didn’t forget. They told the story. It became fiction. But it’s documentation disguised as entertainment.”

PATRICIA: “That’s… actually plausible. If memory suppression isn’t perfect, some people would retain fragments. Those fragments become stories. Stories enter culture. Culture preserves the memory even when individuals forget.”

Z’REX: “Collective memory through mythology.”

DIANE: “Exactly. The Functionaries flash individuals. But they can’t flash culture. So the memory persists. Changed. Distorted. But preserved.”

MARCUS: “Which means if we find the people who created the original stories, the urban legends, the comics, the movies — we find the Rememberers. The ones who got flashed but didn’t forget.”

PATRICIA: “And if we find them, we find out why the suppression failed.”

Z’REX: “No.”

EVERYONE: “What?”

Z’REX: “If you find them, the Functionaries will know. They monitor for pattern recognition. If you start investigating too obviously, they’ll intervene. More flashes. Stronger suppression. They’ll erase this conversation. Possibly erase you.”

MARCUS: “Can they do that? Just… erase people?”

Z’REX: “We don’t know what they can do. That’s the problem. They operate outside our jurisdiction. Outside anyone’s jurisdiction. They’re autonomous. Self-directed. Following protocols we don’t understand from sources we can’t identify.”

DIANE: “So we do nothing?”

Z’REX: “So we’re very, very careful.”

Dudes in black - face doesn't register.
Witnesses forget the face – remember the flash.

PATRICIA’S RESEARCH RESULTS

PATRICIA: “I’ve been scanning reports. Last night, starting around 3 AM UTC, there was a spike in social media posts about ‘strange dreams,’ ‘men in suits,’ ‘missing time,’ and ‘remembering things that didn’t happen.'”

MARCUS: “How big a spike?”

PATRICIA: “Twelve thousand posts in six hours. Normally there’d be maybe fifty. This is statistically significant.”

DIANE: “It’s spreading. More people remembering every hour.”

Z’REX: “Show me the geographic distribution.”

Patricia projects map. Hotspots appear globally. But not random.

Z’REX: “Those locations…”

MARCUS: “What about them?”

Z’REX: “They correlate with recent consciousness events. The quantum loop. The cow broadcast. The chicken observations. Everywhere humans experienced expanded awareness, now they’re remembering being flashed.”

PATRICIA: “Expanded consciousness breaks memory suppression?”

Z’REX: “Or reveals it. Maybe the suppression was always visible to expanded consciousness. But most humans don’t have expanded consciousness. Until recently.”

DIANE: “The cow broadcast. 3.2 billion people experienced bovine collective consciousness. That changed them. Opened them. Made them more aware.”

MARCUS: “So the memory suppression device works on normal human consciousness. But enhanced consciousness, post-cow-broadcast consciousness, can see through it?”

Z’REX: “That would explain the timing. The suppression didn’t fail. Humans changed. They evolved past the suppression threshold.”

PATRICIA: “Which means this is permanent. Everyone who experienced the cow broadcast is now immune to memory suppression?”

Z’REX: “Potentially. If their consciousness remains expanded.”

DIANE: “And it will. That’s how consciousness works. Once you expand, you don’t contract. You might forget temporarily. But the capacity remains.”

MARCUS: “So 3.2 billion people are now Rememberers?”

Z’REX: “Eventually. If they pay attention. If they notice. If they question their memories.”

PATRICIA: “The Functionaries can’t flash 3.2 billion people.”

Z’REX: “No. They can’t.”

DIANE: “So what do they do?”

Z’REX: “I don’t know. This has never happened before.”

ACT FOUR: THE EMERGENCY PROTOCOLS

NHIC HEADQUARTERS – EMERGENCY MEETING – 10 AM

Full assembly. Z’rex presenting findings.

Z’REX: “Summary: Memory suppression system failing. Cause: Human consciousness evolution post-cow-broadcast. Effect: Mass remembering of previously suppressed experiences. Estimated affected population: 3.2 billion over next six months. Functionaries’ response: Unknown.”

QELL: “The Functionaries operate independently. We have no communication channel. No negotiation protocol. They’re not hostile but they’re not cooperative. They just… execute.”

SPECIALIST TAHN: “Can we warn them? Tell them humans have evolved?”

QELL: “They already know. They’re aware of everything. That’s their function.”

SPECIALIST V’SH: “Then what do we do?”

QELL: “We wait. And watch. And hope they adapt.”

Z’REX: “And if they don’t adapt? If they try to suppress 3.2 billion people with upgraded consciousness?”

QELL: “Then we have a war between memory and consciousness. Between what was and what is. Between authorized reality and experienced reality.”

SPECIALIST QUINN: “Who wins that war?”

QELL: “Nobody. Reality fractures. Timeline splits. We get multiple competing versions of Earth, all equally real, all incompatible.”

SPECIALIST RHEN: (all three time states speaking in distress) “We’re already seeing timeline fragmentation. Small fractures. People remembering different versions of recent events. Mandela Effects multiplying. Not from memory error—from actual timeline divergence.”

Z’REX: “How bad?”

RHEN: “Manageable. For now. But if the Functionaries escalate suppression while humans resist, the fractures widen. By this time next year, we could have fifty distinct timeline branches. All diverging. All trying to claim authenticity.”

QELL: “We need to establish communication with the Functionaries. Negotiate a new protocol.”

Z’REX: “How? They don’t talk to us.”

QELL: “They talk to someone. They’re programmed. Programming requires a programmer. Find the programmer. Find the source code. Modify the protocol.”

Z’REX: “You’re suggesting we hack reality maintenance?”

QELL: “I’m suggesting we update it. Reality has changed. Humans have changed. The maintenance protocols need to change too.”

TAHN: “How do we find the programmer?”

QELL: “We follow the code.”

ACT FIVE: THE RABBIT HOLE

MARCUS’S APARTMENT – AFTERNOON

Group brainstorming. Whiteboard covered in notes.

MARCUS: “Okay. So. The Functionaries erase memories. Specifically, memories that would destabilize consensus reality. They’ve been doing this for ten thousand years. Someone programmed them. Who?”

PATRICIA: “And how? They’re not technology. They’re not biological. They’re… what? Pure information? Consciousness constructs?”

DIANE: “They feel like… scripts. Like someone wrote a program and set it running. The program executes. That’s all.”

Z’REX: “But who writes programs for reality?”

EVERYONE: (long pause)

MARCUS: “What if it’s not ‘who.’ What if it’s ‘what.'”

PATRICIA: “Meaning?”

MARCUS: “What if reality programs itself? What if the Functionaries aren’t created by anyone? They’re emergent. Self-generating. Reality’s immune system.”

DIANE: “Fighting off… what? Contradictions?”

MARCUS: “Exactly. Reality needs consistency. When too many people remember contradictory things, reality produces Functionaries to eliminate the contradiction. They’re not entities. They’re functions. Literally.”

Z’REX: “That’s… actually terrifying.”

PATRICIA: “Why?”

Z’REX: “Because if they’re self-generating, we can’t turn them off. They’re part of reality’s structure. Like gravity. Like time. You don’t negotiate with gravity.”

MARCUS: “But gravity can be worked with. You can’t turn it off but you can build planes. You can orbit. You can work within the rules.”

DIANE: “So we need to understand the rules.”

PATRICIA: “The rules being… what? How does reality decide what memories to suppress?”

MARCUS: Starts researching. Pulls up files. Incident reports. Patterns. “Look. Every documented Functionary appearance happens after someone witnesses something impossible. Not improbable. Impossible. Things that violate current scientific understanding.”

PATRICIA: “Examples?”

MARCUS: “UFO sightings where craft perform impossible maneuvers. Time loops. Dimensional breaches. Telepathic contact with non-human intelligence. Anything that can’t be explained within the existing paradigm.”

DIANE: “But now the paradigm is changing. We know about telepathy. We know about manifestation. We know about conscious cows and temporal chickens.”

MARCUS: “Right. The paradigm expanded. So things that were ‘impossible’ last year are now ‘unusual but documented’ this year.”

PATRICIA: “Which means the Functionaries’ target list is shrinking.”

Z’REX: “Or changing. Maybe they’re not targeting impossible things anymore. Maybe they’re targeting the next tier. Things that are impossible even within the new paradigm.”

DIANE: “Like what?”

Z’REX: “Like the octopi.”

EVERYONE: “No.”

Z’REX: “Think about it. The octopi are classified above everything else. They send fruit baskets with cryptic messages. They claim responsibility for ‘everything else.’ What if the Functionaries exist to keep people from noticing the octopi?”

MARCUS: “Why?”

Z’REX: “Because if people knew what the octopi are, consensus reality would collapse entirely.”

PATRICIA: “What ARE the octopi?”

Z’REX: “I don’t know. But V’sh opened their fruit basket. Read the note. And almost had a breakdown. That’s not normal.”

DIANE: “So the Functionaries aren’t guarding reality from aliens or anomalies. They’re guarding reality from the truth about the octopi.”

Z’REX: “Maybe.”

MARCUS: “Then we need to check the octopi files.”

EVERYONE: “NO.”

Z’REX: “Absolutely not.”

MARCUS: “Why not?”

Z’REX: “Because some things are classified for good reason. The octopi want us to check the files. They keep sending invitations. Fruit baskets. Notes. That’s a trap.”

PATRICIA: “Or it’s a test.”

Z’REX: “Same thing, usually.”

ACT SIX: THE REVELATION

LATE NIGHT – PATRICIA’S LAB

Patricia working alone. Can’t sleep. Too many questions.

Pulls up public records. Hollywood. Men in Black movie. Credits. Writers. Creators. Traces back. Comic book. 1990. Creator: Lowell Cunningham.

Researches Cunningham. Interviews. Statements. Finds old interview from 1991.

INTERVIEWER: “Where did you get the idea for Men in Black?”

CUNNINGHAM: “I had this dream. Really vivid. I was a kid, maybe seven. I saw something in the sky. Something impossible. Next thing I remember, there were men in black suits in my room. One held this device. Flashed a light. I forgot everything. For years. Then in 1989, I started having these dreams. Remembering. Couldn’t shake it. So I wrote it down. Made it fiction. Felt safer that way.”

Patricia stares at screen. Cunningham was flashed. Remembered. Documented. The movie isn’t fiction. It’s testimony disguised as entertainment. She keeps researching. Finds more. Other creators. Other stories.

Science fiction writers who “dreamed” their plots.
Filmmakers who “imagined” scenarios.
All describing similar experiences: strange sightings, missing time, men in suits, memory gaps.

All flashed.
All Rememberers.
All documenting reality through the protective cover of fiction.

PATRICIA: (aloud) “The red pill and blue pill.”

Matrix. 1999. What if that wasn’t metaphor? What if the Wachowskis remembered something? Documented it? She searches. Finds old interview.

WACHOWSKI: “The Matrix came from this feeling. That reality isn’t what we’re told it is. That there’s something underneath. Something we’re not supposed to see. I had nightmares about it for years. Figured making a movie would exorcise them.”

Patricia sits back.

Calls Z’rex.

EMERGENCY CALL – 2 AM

Z’REX: “Patricia, it’s 2 AM —”

PATRICIA: “All of it. All the science fiction. All the conspiracy theories. All the ‘crazy’ stories. They’re real. They’re documentation. People got flashed. Some remembered. Couldn’t talk about it directly—no one would believe them. So they made it fiction. Science fiction. Fantasy. Horror. All of it. It’s a cultural archive of suppressed memories.”

Z’REX: “…Oh no.”

PATRICIA: “The Functionaries have been operating for ten thousand years. That’s ten thousand years of flashing people. Millions of people. And some of them remembered. Told stories. Stories became myths, became legends, became religion, became literature, became movies. Human culture is one giant memory preservation system working against suppression.”

Z’REX: “That’s… actually brilliant. Horrifying but brilliant.”

PATRICIA: “Which means we’ve been documenting this all along. The information isn’t hidden. It’s hiding in plain sight. In every story where reality isn’t what it seems. In every movie about memory manipulation. In every book about hidden truths. The Rememberers have been telling us for millennia.”

Z’REX: “So what do we do?”

PATRICIA: “We stop calling it fiction.”

ACT SEVEN: THE ORANGE PILL

MARCUS’S BLOG – 3 AM POST

Title: “So About Those Movies”

You know the red pill/blue pill thing from The Matrix? Yeah. That’s not metaphor.

Here’s what I’ve learned in the last 48 hours: The Men in Black movie? Based on real entities. Black suits. Memory flash devices. Actually real. The Matrix? About reality not being what we think? Also real. Probably.

Every science fiction movie about memory manipulation, reality programming, hidden truths, and things we’re not supposed to know? Documentation. From people who remembered.

The Functionaries — that’s what we’re calling them — have been erasing memories for ten thousand years. But some people remember anyway. They can’t talk about it directly. So they make movies. Write books. Tell stories.

And we all watched and thought “cool fiction” while the Rememberers were screaming “THIS IS REAL” through the protective filter of entertainment.

But now the memory suppression is failing. 3.2 billion people are starting to remember things they forgot. Or things they never knew they knew. Because consciousness expanded. We touched something bigger. And now we can’t unsee it.

The red pill was truth. The blue pill was comfortable illusion. Turns out we already took the red pill. During the cow broadcast. We just didn’t realize it yet. Now we’re realizing.

And the pills? They’re not red or blue anymore. They’re orange.

Because reality is more complicated than binary choices.

Top Comment (Patricia): “I’ve verified this through multiple sources. The evidence is overwhelming. Hollywood has been documenting reality suppression for decades. We’ve been watching the truth and calling it entertainment.”

Second Comment (Diane): “The chickens know about this. I asked. They said: ‘Humans tell themselves stories to remember what they forgot. This is correct behavior. When the time comes, all stories will be remembered as history.'”

Third Comment (Username: DEFINITELY_NOT_COWS): “This is why we almost left. You forgot everything important. Then made movies about it. Then forgot the movies were real. Humans are exhausting.”

Fourth Comment (Marcus): “Wait, are the cows commenting on my blog now?”

Fifth Comment (Username: DEFINITELY_NOT_COWS): “We comment where we choose. The chickens do not comment. They are waiting. We are watching. The difference is significant.”

EPILOGUE: THE ADJUSTMENT

NHIC HEADQUARTERS – MORNING

QELL: “Status update?”

Z’REX: “Memory suppression failing worldwide. Twelve thousand documented cases of remembering. Marcus’s blog post has been viewed fifty million times. Hollywood executives are calling him for interviews. Patricia is writing papers. Diane is fielding telepathic calls from confused newly-awakened humans. The cows are commenting on social media. Everything is chaos.”

QELL: “And the Functionaries?”

Z’REX: “Haven’t seen them since the first night. They’re… withdrawing? Adapting? I don’t know.”

QELL: “Maybe they’re waiting.”

Z’REX: “For what?”

QELL: “To see if humans can handle the truth without destabilizing reality.”

Z’REX: “Can they?”

QELL: “We’re about to find out.”

MARCUS’S CLOSET – NIGHT

Marcus getting ready for bed.

Pauses at closet door. Opens it carefully. Empty. Normal. He’s about to close it when he notices something. A note. On a small white card. Wasn’t there before. Picks it up. Handwritten. Precise lettering.

NOTE: You remember now. This is acceptable. Reality maintenance protocols have been updated.

New parameters: Humans may remember. Humans may document. Humans may share.

Condition: Reality must remain stable. If stability fails, suppression resumes.
If stability holds, suppression ends.

This is test.
Do not fail.

— F

Marcus stares at the note. Calls Z’rex.

Z’REX: “Please tell me they didn’t leave another message.”

MARCUS: “They left another message. It’s a test. We can remember now. But only if reality stays stable.”

Z’REX: “Define ‘stable.'”

MARCUS: “It doesn’t say.”

Z’REX: “Of course it doesn’t.”

MARCUS: “Also? They signed it. Just the letter F. For Functionaries? Or something else?”

Z’REX: “Probably Functionaries.”

MARCUS: “You don’t sound certain.”

Z’REX: “I’m not certain about anything anymore. But at least they’re communicating. That’s new.”

MARCUS: “Is it good?”

Z’REX: “It’s better than silent suppression. Slightly better. Maybe.”

MARCUS: “So we passed?”

Z’REX: “We got probation. Now we have to prove we can handle the truth.”

MARCUS: “No pressure.”

Z’REX: “So much pressure.”

POST-CREDITS SCENE #1:

MOVIE STUDIO – HOLLYWOOD

Executive’s office. Phone ringing.

EXECUTIVE: “Hello?”

VOICE: (distorted) “We need to talk about your upcoming slate.”

EXECUTIVE: “Who is this?”

VOICE: “Your films have been… unusually accurate lately. Documentaries disguised as fiction. [Disclosure Day] This is acceptable. But you need to adjust your approach.”

EXECUTIVE: “I don’t understand —”

VOICE: “Make them more accurate. Not less. Humans can handle truth now. Give it to them. Through entertainment. It’s what you’ve always done. Do it better.”

EXECUTIVE: “Who ARE you?”

VOICE: “We’re consultants. You’ve been working with us for decades. You just forgot. Now you remember.”

Call ends.

Executive stares at phone. Pulls up filing cabinet. Finds folder labeled “SPECIAL PROJECTS – CLASSIFIED.” Opens it. Inside: Scripts. Treatments. All marked with the same symbol: F.

All describing reality-bending concepts. Memory manipulation. Hidden truths. Consciousness expansion.

All green-lit.
All profitable.
All… accurate?

EXECUTIVE: (aloud) “Oh god.”

POST-CREDITS SCENE #2:

UNDERWATER – LOCATION CLASSIFIED

Octopus garden. Hundreds of octopi. Various sizes. One large octopus in center. Eight arms gesturing in complex patterns.

Telepathic broadcast to… somewhere: The Functionaries have adjusted protocols. Humans may now remember. This accelerates timeline.

Chickens report: Three years remain. Then activation.
Dolphins confirm: Observation continues. Newsletter distribution increased.
Cows acknowledge: Participation continues. Kepler embassy on hold.

Our status: Unchanged. Waiting. When all pieces converge, we reveal.

Not yet.
But soon.
The remembering has begun.
This is acceptable.

— O

Transmission ends.

All octopi return to normal behavior. Just octopi doing octopi things. Nothing to see here. Move along.

POST-CREDITS SCENE #3:

Z’REX’S OFFICE – VERY LATE NIGHT

Z’rex updating files.

Types: “Functionaries: Status changed from UNCOOPERATIVE to CONDITIONALLY COOPERATIVE. Humans granted permission to remember. Condition: Reality stability required. Failure = renewed suppression.”

Pauses.

Adds: “Note: Signature ‘F’ may indicate individual entity or collective designation. Unclear. Further observation required.”

Pauses again.

Adds: “Personal note: I think the Functionaries, the chickens, the octopi, and possibly the dolphins are all coordinating. But I cannot prove this. And asking directly would probably trigger something. So I’m just… documenting it. And pretending not to notice.”

Saves file. Closes laptop. Looks at closet door in office.

It’s closed. Opens it carefully. Empty.

Except — Small white card on floor.

NOTE: Correct behavior. Document but do not interfere. When interference becomes necessary, we will notify you.

Until then: observe.

— F

P.S. The octopi say hello.

Z’rex stares at note.

Z’REX: (aloud) “I’m requesting a transfer.”

NOTE: (new text appearing on card in real-time)

Request denied.

You’re doing well.

Continue.

Z’REX: “…Okay then.”

Sits back down. Opens laptop. Continues working.

What else can you do?

THE END OF EPISODE 5

NEXT TIME ON CONSCIOUSNESS COMPLIANCE DEPARTMENT:

“The Octopus Files (We’re Really Doing This Now)” or “The Dolphin Newsletter: Full Translation” or “Why Are Hollywood Executives Receiving Memory Updates and Should We Be Concerned?”

Whatever it is, the Functionaries approve. Probably.
The octopi definitely approve.
The chickens continue waiting.
The cows are still commenting on Marcus’s blog.

And Z’rex’s transfer request was denied by entities that aren’t supposed to exist.

Business as usual.

(Everyone got flashed except the ones who didn’t.)

(Now the ones who didn’t are telling everyone else.)

(The rabbit hole is real. The pills are orange. Reality is a consensus agreement maintained by memory-erasing entities that just put us on probation.)

(Welcome to Earth.)

Episode 6: “The Housekeeping Inspection” (Or, 1:We Have Guests and the Place is a Mess) (Or, 2: How do you spell Reptillian?)
