The quote resonates because the realization seems to echo my experience with my nightlight companion. The difference being that I am fully and completely aware of this presence.
Furthermore, at times that presence has been noted by others with whom I have connected. I have a recent example to share in this post. I am also intrigued by William T. Stead and his writing. Truly fascinating.
Continuing with a deeper dive into the book from which the opening quote was taken.
Real Ghost Stories – Introduction from the book
From Stead’s daughter:
“During the last few years I have been urged by people in all parts of the world to re-issue some of the wonderful stories of genuine psychic experiences collected by my Father several years ago.
These stories were published by him in two volumes in 1891-92; the first, entitled Real Ghost Stories, created so much interest and brought in so large a number of other stories of genuine experiences that the first volume was soon followed by a second, entitled More Ghost Stories.
The contents of the two volumes, slightly curtailed, were, a few years later, brought out as one book; but the three volumes have long been out of print and are practically unknown to the present generation.
I remember when I was a child my Father read some of these stories aloud to us as he was making his collection; and I remember, too, how thrilled and awed we were, and how at times they brought a creepy feeling when at night I had to mount many flights of stairs to my bedroom at the top of the house.
Reading these stories again, after many years’ study of the subject, I have realised what a wealth of interesting facts my Father had gathered together, and that not only the gathered facts, but his own contributions, his chapter on “The Ghost That Dwelleth in Each One of Us” and his comments on the stories, show what an insight he had into and what an understanding he had of this vast and wonderful subject.

Now we hear from Stead.
“The reality of the Invisibles has long since ceased to be for me a matter of speculation. It is one of the things about which I feel as certain as I do, for instance, of the existence of the people of Tierra del Fuego; and while it is of no importance to me to know that Tierra del Fuego is inhabited, it is of vital importance to know that the spirits of the departed, and also of those still occupying for a time the moveable biped telephone which we call our body, can, and given the right conditions do, communicate with the physical unconsciousness of the man in the street.
It is a fact which properly apprehended would go far to remedy some of the worst evils from which we have to complain. For our conception of life has got out of form, owing to our constant habit of mistaking a part for the whole, and everything looks awry.” – William T. Stead

Bio in brief. William Thomas Stead was an English newspaper editor who, as a pioneer of investigative journalism, became a controversial figure of the Victorian era. Stead’s ‘new journalism’ paved the way for the modern tabloid in Great Britain. Influential in demonstrating how the press could be used to influence public opinion and government policy, and advocated “government by journalism”.

Accounts of Stead’s After Death survival
Even more interesting is the volume of information compiled after Stead’s death indicating he still had a lot to say. That he did, through various Mediums.
Afterlife researcher, Michael Tymn followed up and authored a book on Stead, Transcending the Titanic: Beyond Death’s Door, Amazon Affiliate Link.
He includes a passage, delivered through a medium, of Stead’s description of his death on the Titanic. Stead says, “Even my plight was preferable to some, for I was hurt by something like a blow, and so I quickly sank below the surface of the sea. Read more on Tymn’s blog at White Crow books.

The Paranormal Anomaly – A Nightlights Video Glitch
Sometimes things happen with my nightlights that I have no explanation for. This is one of those times when I was completely unprepared – and a bit nervous – because of potentially expensive fallout that seemed to be related to interaction with my nightlight energy/entity.
The weird thing happened when I connected with Author/Telekinesis Researcher, James A. Conrad. I was interested in his background and information he was offering for reuse from his website. This is the paragraph of his bio that drew me in:
“In between his writing work, he has done laboratory work in speculative physics; specifically, in the investigation and research of proposed consciousness effects on matter, in which he designed and operated his own full-scale telekinesis laboratory, one of the few in the world known to have ever existed, with photos available online. He was a member of Tampa Bay Skeptics for 15 years.”
He politely declined when I requested an interview, but indicated he would be open to email interaction. Thinking he might appreciate a personal anecdote, I decided to share information about my nightlight experience.
He responded and suggested a few options for the activity – including paranormal – but also likely that the activity was an indication the bulb was burning out.
Having written about my interaction and offering public demonstrations over the past couple of decades, I wanted to provide him with an example of what I observe {minus the channeled content from the entity/energy}.
Given that interactivity has been ongoing 26 years (as of Dec 2023), and the activity is not limited to one light, I know the bulb is not an issue. That doesn’t mean he should believe what I say without further interaction.
As it happened, I could provide recent video examples of the activity, recorded while staying at a B&B in Texas as we visited Andy’s family. I sent 2 short videos [Demo upload 2/of 2] prior to posting on YouTube. And that is where it got interesting…
Also related. Before receiving his reply about my videos, I spilled water near the power strip the nightlight is plugged into. I was mopping up the water when the light blinked twice. Surprised, I said, “Hello, you’re awake.”
A bit more background. Unlike the hyper mode demonstrated on the videos during our vacation stay, the nightlight stayed off most of the time after we returned home. And I have been previously informed by the energy/entity that is an intentional power-saving mode to conserve the life of the bulb.
The surprise was the quick blink, timed shortly before I discovered the email from James – informing me about the computer glitch my nightlight videos had triggered.
A Nightlight Glitch – the email correspondence
This took me by surprise. From James: – [Edited email]
“I clicked on one of the videos of yours to play offline and it damaged my computer. Don’t know yet if it can be repaired, working on it.
I did a Windows 10 system file check using a command prompt (sfc /scannow) and can’t find anything wrong.
I did a full malware scan on my computer and also scanned the two videos on the flash drive. Everything checks out okay.
I’ve never experienced these malfunctions on a laptop before. What are the odds that when I click on a paranormal claimant’s video involving lights and especially Night Lights my computer’s light controls malfunction?
To summarize the malfunctions:
1. Screen Brightness stuck at maximum, controls inoperative.
2. Sleep function setting gone completely as an option.
3. Night Light blue-color reduction setting accessible but inoperative.
Obviously, I’m not going to attempt to watch those videos again. I might have to buy a new laptop if I can’t fix this.
If there is something paranormal going on here, I wonder if it wouldn’t have happened if I had not named the video files Wendy-1 and Wendy-2, thus connecting them to your situation.
My advice is the following regarding your experiences:

Telling the story – The Podcast + video
James also did me favor when he requested, rather than the audio link – another way to listen. I took it as a prompt to consider adding video to make some of my podcasts available on YouTube. I experimented, yikes $$$!, and settled on a basic [affordable] presentation.
Here we go – me telling the story of what happened when he tried to open my nightlight videos – convincing me YouTube is my best option for nightlight videos – to avoid similar paranormal bugaboos.
Update on the Computer Glitch
I am relieved to say James found the issue: “It was my graphics driver. It was disabled. I turned it back on in the computer’s Device Manager and everything now works again: Brightness controls, Night Light (blue light filter), and Sleep settings.
Why clicking on your video would instantly disable it is a mystery, and I don’t discount a paranormal explanation. Sleep is when people use night lights, so that fits as well.
My computer has lots of drivers, but only the one connected to lights was affected…or targeted.”
Wendy says: “Given what I have experienced with my nightlights [the energy], prior to getting the email response from James, I believe that short interactive blink was a wink…”
