When You Breathe, I Inhale

“Death ends a life, not a relationship.” — Mitch Albom

We do not die. The body is gone, yes, but the who of us, the “I Am,” remains very much alive.

Not everyone can make a connection with their loved ones, no matter how much they try. That’s where mediums and sensitives come in. And sometimes, even without those channels, the ones we care about manage to slip through, a word, a feeling, a sudden knowing, passed along through an unsuspecting messenger or complete neophyte.

Whatever the method, the result is the same: connection. And that connection brings comfort.

Getting a message from spirit is a bit like a game of charades. The best mediums can deliver it nearly verbatim. The next best offer a close translation. And the rest, well, they give it their best effort. It isn’t a matter of talent so much as translation.

Communication between worlds can be complicated, by language, emotion, or the personal filters of the living conduit. After all, a spirit doesn’t suddenly start speaking Latin if their last incarnation was as a Native American. There’s so much to explain, and so little we can truly understand from this side.

Our loved ones who have crossed over are often with us more fully in spirit than they ever could be in life. It’s our attachment to the physical plane that keeps the door closed to our awareness.

So, if you’re trying to make contact, if you’re sensing that someone is trying to reach you, and the rapping on the door, flickering lights, or changes in the thermostat aren’t getting the message across, it may be time to shift your focus.

Find a quiet space. Breathe. Relax. Open your mind. Suspend doubt.

Listen to the silence. Relax even more.
Tune in.

Say thank you for the opportunity to connect. Send your love, and feel loved in return. Even if you hear nothing, they hear you.

No promises, but… if and when you’re open, and if and when you’re ready, you’ll sense a response. Sometimes, the only thing they can manage to say is “Hello.” Or “I’m here when you need me.” And sometimes, they say much more.

When they do, it’s an extraordinary thing, to sense, to feel, to hear.

I’ve been blessed with reassurance from my guides and spirit helpers. But the most meaningful moments come from firsthand experience, when those I’ve loved most find their own ways to check in, each in their unique style… even my pets.

It’s enough to assure me that there is no death of the soul. The body retires. We move on. We change form, and continue forward.

And when we can, we touch base.

“Love doesn’t vanish, it transforms. It breathes through us.” — Wendy
