Revisiting Napoleon Hill – A Classic Updated

More gold has been mined from the thoughts of men than has been taken from the earth.
  Napoleon Hill

It’s great to get a Heads Up when timeless works have been revamped. Napoleon Hill  was mentioned in an earlier post. The mention triggered an info-packed response. I am posting it here to ensure it doesn’t get lost in the comments.

I enjoyed reading your blog today, and I thought that you might be interested to learn that a new edition of Napoleon Hill’s classic book “Think and Grow Rich” has been published.

Its title is “Think and Grow Rich!” (subtitled) “The Original Version, Restored and Revised.” I am the editor/annotator of this new 412-page edition, which is really an homage to Dr. Hill. (For several years I was the editor-in-chief of “Think & Grow Rich Newsletter.”)

What I have done is this: to restore Dr. Hill’s book to its original manuscript content (it was first published in 1937, but was abridged in 1960), annotate it with more than 50 pages of endnotes (most of the persons and events he discusses are generally unknown to readers today), index it thoroughly, add an appendix with a wealth of additional information about Dr. Hill and his work, and revise the book in ways to help remove certain “impediments” to reading the book today (language that today would be considered obsolete, sexist or racist). None of these things had previously been done with TGR.

If you would like to learn a little more about this project, a quick visit to www.tgr-restored-revised.com will give you some details. The “Editor’s Foreword” provides more complete information, and the “Testimonials” page will demonstrate how well-received this new book is around the world.

Here is the book’s Amazon.com page

The book is available on all the Amazon websites and most other online sellers, it can be ordered by any bookstore, and it will start appearing in bookstores soon. We also sell direct, at steep discounts, to personal success coaches and motivational speakers who use it for back-of-the-room sales and to teach Master Mind Study Groups.

Our edition of TGR! is superior in every way to other versions on the market. It is a trade paperback, not a pocket-size mass market paperback. It is unabridged. It is 412 pages versus 230+ (depending on the edition). It looks better, feels better, reads better than any other version. It is fast becoming the “version of choice” among Napoleon Hill devotees and other students of success and high achievement.

Thank you for your time and attention.

Ross Cornwell, Editor

  1. Wendy.

    Thanks for the Tip!

I like the idea of updating the people so we can identify with them and the addition of the end notes, but it worries me that he has made it politically correct. I’m afraid something will get lost in the translation. For example, in the chapter on Sex Transmutation, Mr. Hill clearly explained why men need to be married and remain true to their wives in order to fully succeed. Maybe that is considered sexist in some circles, but it is truth “And the truth shall set you free”.

If you read this book, let me know what you think.

  2. Michael,

I hope you will be pleased to learn that not a single principle of Dr. Hill’s original work has been changed and that not a single comma or word was altered without first asking myself — and being able to answer in the affirmative — is that what Napoleon Hill would most likely have done were he editing his book for readers today. I am a student of writing style, especially Hill’s, and my version of TGR is true, in every way that matters, to the original work.

I like how Dr. Charles C. Manz has described what I have done (he is the Nirenberg Chaired Professor of Business Leadership at the University of Massachusetts and author of “Temporary Sanity: Instant Self-Leadership Strategies for Turbulent Times.”) He said my version of this classic book has been “gently adapted.” I think that’s a lovely description that is in keeping with the spirit of how I approached my work. Keeping the book from becoming a casualty of PC was one of my highest objectives.

I hope at some point you will read the chapter on “Sex Transmutation.” I believe you will find that it does not dilute in any way Dr. Hill’s message. In fact it strengthens it by making the principles apply more meaningfully to women as well as men.

  3. Thank you for the response and the update! We need winning recipes for relationships that model the beauty and unique contribution offered when male and female perspectives successfully conjoin to become co-creators rather than competitors/combatants.

  4. Hello and Thank You Chuck – I listened to the latest segment. Nicely done. I hail from two decades in commercial broadcasting. I love the variety the web offers! Hard to find positive/upbeat talk content – anywhere in commercial am radio.
Great content, great delivery and great competition for terra radio!
    — Check out the show, and when you do, he will give a web address to get a free download of The Master Key.

  6. If you love “Think And Grow Rich” you’re REALLY going to love this. I have just created a MOVIE of the first 3-chapters in T&GR.

They are: Chapter 1 “Thoughts Are Things” – Chapter 2 “Desire” – Chapter 3 “Faith.”

I have been a film producer for 25-years and built a huge production company by applying the principles of T&GR. It changed my life! This is a FIRST-CLASS production.
